Waiheke Radio in Civil Defence exercise

On Friday May 27th Waiheke Radio took part in the first test of the Waiheke Emergency Response Plan to see how efficiently our island's civil defence systems could be activated and operational. Within 12 minutes of the exercise starting, we had people in place ready to broadcast emergency messages as required.

Remember. If there is ever an island emergency, listen to your local radio (that's us) for civil defence  mesages

Christchurch Earthquake Person Enquiry Line now activated

As the radio station is part of the Islands Civil Defence network we are being updated on the support systems Civil Defence are putting in place in Christchurch. The latest is a person enquiry line for anyone trying to contact friends or relatives in Christchurch. See details below. As we can, we'll update any Civil Defence bulletins we get regarding the Christchurch quake.

Red Cross Person Enquiry Line now activated


The New Zealand Red Cross Person Enquiry Line is now activated.


People in New Zealand concerned about the wellbeing of friends and relatives in Christchurch should call 0800 REDCROSS (0800 733 276).


If you are unable to contact a friend or relative in the Christchurch area, call the Red Cross Person Enquiry Line. Red Cross will be able to tell you if they have registered with Civil Defence.


People are encouraged to do this before reporting friends and relatives missing.


People enquiring from outside New Zealand should call +64 7 850 2199.

Severe Weather Warning

UPDATE: Auckland City Council are recommeding people check their preparation for power cuts.


The Auckland Region Emergency Management Office reminds Aucklanders to stay up-to-date with weather forecasts over the next 24 hours.
MetService expects the Auckland region to be hit by severe weather between Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning with winds expected to rise to gale force in many areas.

Harry O’Rourke, Group Controller for the Auckland Region Civil Defence Emergency Management Group, advises people to be prepared for severe weather in the Auckland region.  The Auckland Region Emergency Management Office and local authority emergency management offices throughout the region are monitoring the weather situation.

Listen to your radio for civil defence information or any information relating to severe weather.
