Waiheke Radio Presents.. 'Searching for Sugarman' special screening @ the Waiheke Cinema on Fri 16th Nov 8pm

This music documentary is one not to be missed! Singer, songwriter & poet; Rodriguez (from the mid 1970's) This is a documentary that explores the man, myth and legend whose ground-breaking album 'Cold Fact' released some 40 years ago - is brought back from obscurity. This year's 'Sundance Film Festival' award-winning Doco 'Searching for Sugarman' explores the story of two South Africans quest to answer some of those questions and bring his music to life!

Rodriguez was renowned for his poignant lyrics and while the album flopped in his native USA, it was picked up by a bootleg album released in South Africa. It was actually the hey-day of the anti-apartied movement that rocketed his fame into the limelight.. In South Africa, he was bigger than Elvis.

This is a story of today because I feel that his lyrics are timeless - the issues remain the same and the music has certainly carried it forward to the present.. as if it were yesterday..

If you've ever wondered.. Check out this special screening 'Searching for Sugarman' at the Cinema this Friday 16th Nov @ 8pm.

See you there!
